Volcanoes

Here is a photo of the volcano we used in class to do an experiment. It's made of flour, water and salt and has a plastic bottle incorporated so that you can add liquids. We put some coloured water in the bottle, then added a few drops of washing up liquid and two tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda. Finally we added some vinegar. It really started to fizz and then erupted just like a real volcano! Why don't you try making one?

Photosynthesis Trees

Look at this forest of Photosynthesis Trees my 5th years made! They are made with A4 card and the children drew pictures of the process of photosynthesis and wrote definitions on them. It's a fun way of helping them revise for their Science exam. Hope you like them!

Here you have a template to make the tree which you might want to enlarge for A4 size. You need two and you slot them together after decorating them with drawings and text to explain photosynthesis. You cut one from the top of the centre line downwards to the lower big dot in the centre of the tree, and then the other from the bottom of the centre line upwards to the higher big dot.

Foldables for Science

My 5th years classes did some foldables for the topic 'Living Things' in Science. Here are some photos of the best ones!

A Special Story

The other day Alba's Mum came to class to tell a special story. The children in 4A loved it and I've put some photos here so that you can see how amazing it was!

Gingerbread Man Minibooks

Here are some of the pages from one of the mini books we made about The Gingerbread Man story. All the 4th year children made one and I've selected the best to show you. Now they can read the story to their families!

There Was an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly...

Here is the mural we did with the third years about the rhyme 'There was an old woman who swallowed a fly. Hope you like it and that you can remember all the rhyme because it's really long and it's easy to forget what comes next!

The Gingerbread Man

In the third and fourth year we read the traditional story about the Gingerbread Man. With the fourth years we designed this mural and a big-book so that students from other years can read the story if they haven't already. We also made mini-books where we copied the story inside so that we can read it to our families at home. I made some gingerbread men so that the children could try the spicy ginger flavour. Finally, we acted out a play with masks which the children really enjoyed!

Bonfire Night

Here is our Bonfire Night mural. In Bilingual Schools in the Community of Madrid, everyone always celebrates Halloween, but having grown up in London, I remember celebrating Bonfire Night which is celebrated on the 5th November. I have some great memories of the freezing cold nights with bonfires, fireworks like catherine wheels, roman candles and sparklers, as well as the delicious sausages and jacket potatoes roasted on the bonfire. There are several posts on this blog about Bonfire Night and Guy Fawkes so if you are interested you can read more!

Christmas

Here is our Christmas Mural.  It's based on the song about the 12 days of Christmas and we did it so that my class would be able to understand what they were singing about and for them to remember the order correctly. It really helped!

The Selfish Giant

This is a wall mural my 3rd year class did about the story of the Selfish Giant. We put the story on the green cards to the right of the mural. The children coloured in the mural using crayons and the additional birds and flowers were printed off separately for them to colour and stick on. They really enjoyed doing it!
